“I wanted to make sure that we had the best bang for the buck for Maine people. And among other things, I negotiated with the head of Hydro-Quebec for electricity to come into Maine from that line….But it’s not just about the money to Maine people, or about the benefits that we’ve negotiated, $258 million in benefits, it’s also about, yes, getting back, taking back our state, backing off the $5 billion a year Maine people spend on gas and oil….You have to step back and ask yourself, who will benefit if the line does not go through? Whose bottom line will be harmed, if the line does go through? And I think I know the answer to that.”
